IF you don't the smallest speck of dust will look like a small bubble that wont go away. Other than that it is very good at protecting from scratches and minimising reflections. Re protecting from drops and screen cracks I am not sure because the protector is a very a flexible protector and not like a solid protector sheet of secondary glass.
