Connect the drive through an SAS interface to instantly have another large drive to store important work documents and financial data. This HP 2TB hard drive is also useful if you need a large amount of storage space to turn a computer into a streaming media server. With a spindle speed of 7,200 RPM, it provides quick access to your files without long loading times. The AW555A features a data transfer rate of 6GB/s for a fast internal speed that allows you to quickly save and retrieve your data. Workstations that have MSA P2000 storage bays can stream music and video without lagging. You won't have to worry about glitches during video playback with this responsive, speedy drive.At 12.5 inches high, 8.5 inches wide, and 5.6 inches deep, it fits all standard Serial Attached SCSI or SAS rack mounts and is made for HP's proprietary Modular Smart Array (MSA) storage system. This form factor gives it plenty of space to hold several HDD platters. The entire 2TB capacity of this hard drive is spread out over these physical drives. Each block inside of the AW555A dual port enclosure is mapped to a physical address understood by firmware installed in the controller.This internal hard drive for HPE MSA storage solutions is designed to provide a high level of protection for your data. Physical addresses used by these HP drives are compiled by counting sectors and heads. Your computer's system software sees these SAS drives as a series of numbers that start at zero and go on indefinitely. This logical block addressing scheme lets your computer make full use of the AW555A without having to count blocks. It also means that the SAS interface will make note of any bad blocks before data gets written to them, preventing file corruption or accessing bad sectors. Whenever the LFF disk controller notes a marked block, it records it in the SMART data chart sent over the SAS interface, protecting your data.Hewlett Packard made sure that the disk is compatible with all HP and HPE modular server accessories. This means you won't have any issues installing it in any HPE StorageWorks chassis. It's a drop-in replacement for any volume in HPE P2000 array racks. If you build your own dual array installations, then this is great for any LFF RAID structure. It also fits standard LFF bays in large workstations. A wide array of MSA and MDL P2000 units will mount this volume without problems.You can install any file system designed to work with RAID technology on this volume. This includes ZFS, GPFS, and Btrfs. It also supports every major operating system that can implement RAID. Hewlett Packard media servers ship with GNU/Linux or Windows Server installations onboard. This part is 100-percent compatible with both of these manufacturer standards. Homebuilt UNIX workstations will see this drive as a single block device. This makes it useful for a number of hobbyist applications as well as for high-powered networked storage.
