With respect to the stand not "Lighting up" we don't infer it lights up. The "Lit" sections are printed with glow in the dark filament, which if left under a light, in a window or under a UV light for a while, it will glow green when immediately placed in the dark and is just as effective as the pictures show. For best results leave under a light for about 30 minutes but it does work very well after just a few minutes but not for as long. Hope this helps
