The Acacia Strategy is a series of discussion papers around issues of innovation and sustainability for America's black colleges. The focus of the strategy is to develop a series of overarching themes around which HBCU's can create an ongoing conversation on the innovative academic work of these colleges and how to find ways to sustain this work. The Acacia Strategy is centered on the fact that retention, access and accountability rest on the need for a policy shift that is cultural in nature and the papers in the strategy emphasize this fact and recommends ways to create the desired outcomes to give our students the best opportunities for educational success. The issues papers that comprise The Acacia Strategy will serve several purposes: Provide venues for discussion around various issues that are in play today with respect to high education in the United States. Speak boldly to the ideas, possibilities, vision and mission of higher education history and policy, in general, and the mission and vision of black higher education specifically. Explore bold new areas based on the tremendous work already accomplished by HBCU's and the national black college network. Provide a sound basis for establishing our federal education agenda in the coming decades. Create a contextual framework for discussing issues by HBCU's.
