I contacted the seller and received a partial refund so that I could order the remote from another seller. The gumstick battery was corroded which I managed to clean and get working again. I needed to use a small piece of aluminum foil to help the battery make contact with the pins. The battery door seems to be slightly cracked which requires pressure to keep it closed and operational.
