Thanks to an acclaimed MTV UNPLUGGED performance and even a guest spot on The Simpson's animated series, Tony Bennett enjoyed a well-deserved critical and commercial renaissance in the '90s. Despite having spent most of his career in the shadow of Frank Sinatra, Bennett is technically an even better vocalist than the late Chairman of the Board. Bennett's warm, mellow tone and effortless command of timing and phrasing has made him one of the most admired and successful vocalists of all time and this well-chosen collection of 16 sublime performances from the fifties and early sixties provides an excellent introduction to his vocal artistry. From signature songs like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and "Stranger in Paradise" to lesser known delights like "The Good Life," these cuts prove that great pop songs--like great singers--never go out of style.
