I didn't use the struts that go to the top.No need to take the top off, I used a broom to hold up the top while I put the kit together. After cutting the original struts off with a saws-all, and predrilled small holes on the old struts and back support. I used 2 self-tapping screws on each side. Also, the instructions didn't say to drill larger holes in the floor. The bolts are larger than the original hole in the floor for the braces. Instructions could be a little clearer. Looks great!
