Completely, absolutely orig & untouched. This wonderful & unaltered photo time capsule in the form of a mid-19th c, US Civil war era, diminutive B & W gem tintype photo of a young American railroad conductor, is in its orig period stamped, hinged brown leather, gilt dec case, w/a scarlet red, velvet inset sleeve. The railroad conductor is clothed in period occupational dress & wears a familiar railroad conductor's cloak or heavy lapeled coat, as well as a distinctive, visored railroad conductor's cap. The trad of hand-coloring the sitter's cheeks w/applied blush or faint red coloring, was to give the B & W figurative portrait more 'life' & make it appear the person was in fact a living, breathing thing of warm flesh, w/color in his cheeks & not a cool, posthumous B & W photo of a person locked in a death struggle, where the warmth of their blood would've dissipated. A great pc of early American railroadiana & history. Rare. Fresh.”
