Its roots are traced to Europe, where dappers fished as many as 3,000 years ago, and its popularity continues today, particularly in lreland and Scotland. Today's fly fishers can learn more about fish and how to catch them from this unusual technique, which works especially well when the wind is too strong for even the most able casters. In this first and only book published in the United States exclusively on the subject of dapping, Robert Boyle gives details on how to touch the fly up and down on the surface of the water and use a blowline to carry the fly to the fish without a visible leader or line. Boyle provides a lively account of the history of dapping and shares entertaining reminiscences of how he learned its intricacies, beginning with a lesson from a French maitre d' in the Catskills.
