The technological progress in multi-carrier (MC) modulation ledorthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to become animportant part of beyond 3G cellular mobile communicationstandards, including LTE and WiMAX. These schemes benefit from the advantages of eachsub-system and offer high flexibility, high spectral efficiency, simple detection strategies and narrow-band interference rejectioncapability. Multi-Carrier and Spread Spectrum Systems is one of thefirst books to describe and analyze the basic concepts ofmulti-carrier OFDM transmission and its combination with spreadspectrum (MC-CDMA). The different architectures and detectionstrategies as well as baseband-related transceiver components areexplained. This includes topics like FEC channel coding anddecoding, modulation and demodulation (IFFT/FFT), digitalI/Q-generation, time and frequency synchronisation, channelestimation, frequency domain equalization and RF aspects such asphase noise and non-linearity issues.
