In this age of smartphones, like the Apple iPhone and Samsung Edge, a simple slider phone like the Nokia N95 8GB offers practical and savvy features that get the job done like other high-tech mobile devices. The Nokia N95 8GB comes with a very simple interface, with the 2.6-inch TFT screen and the D-pad occupying most of the mobile phone’s front surface. Its 143 ppi pixel density is standard for most handsets and manages to deliver a clear and bright display on its large screen. At 120 grams, the black Nokia N95 8GB is lightweight and fits right inside the pocket, a purse, or a small bag. It is, however, quite bulky for its size, thanks to its dual slider mechanism. Slide the top section of the N95 upward and you get access to the number pad. The keys are nicely spaced and lets you type with ease. Sliding the upper part of the phone downwards provides access to multimedia controls, such as play/pause, stop, back, and forward. The controls, for the most part, are strictly for playing music, streaming videos, or accessing the built-in FM radio. Designed for easy multitasking, the Nokia N95 8GB dedicated keys allow for uninterrupted music streaming even when you are playing games, texting, or browsing the Web. Navigate most recent folders or other multimedia applications on the screen with the carousel nestled in the D-pad. The navigation buttons let you access music playback as well, but unlike the dedicated multimedia controls, they are not designed to work in the background. Dual speakers sit on top of the phone and delivers high-quality volume and 3D sound effects. A regular 3.5mm earphone jack replaced the old Pop-Port connector of older Nokia versions, a much-welcomed upgrade, especially if you prefer to use your own headphones or earphones. Along with the FM radio is a built-in GPS module that lets you download maps and view them comfortably on the screen. It uses the Garmin Mobile XT GPS software utilized by most mobile devices, such as iPhone. It gives access to points of interests as well as directions to inputted destinations, and uses data connection when not in the proximity of an accessible hot spot. Another welcome upgrade to the Nokia N95 8GB is its built-in Wi-Fi functionality, making it easier, faster, and more convenient to connect to the Internet when you are near a hot spot. The primary camera captures near-DVD quality videos at 480 pixels at 30fps. A front-facing QVGA camera captures decent videos and images. Mainstream file formats, such as MP4, 3GP, WMV, are supported as well as common audio files, like MP3, M4A, WAV, and WMA. A mini USB port allows for faster transferring of files from the phone to a laptop or computer and vice versa. The same port accommodates a compliant AV cable and lets you view your screen’s content to a Smart TV. The Nokia N95 comes with 160MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is quite sufficient for a mobile phone of this size and features. It is missing a MicroSD slot that is present in the classic N95. A removable 950 mAh battery can cover up to six hours of talk time. The battery lasts a full 280 hours while on standby mode. This black Nokia N95 8GB is also equipped with Bluetooth, Document Viewer, Organizer, and Predictive Text Input.
