This guide provides an insight into the problems vital to industry which can arise from the occurrence of cavitation in a centrifugal pump. It also has some general guidelines for acceptable operating conditions, both by net positive suction head (NPSH) margins and by minimum flowrates, with a description of the evidence and logic behind these guidelines. Covering the aspects of cavitation in centrifugal pumps that are important to the majority of pump applications, the aim of this work is to significantly reduce the incidence of unacceptable performance. A method for evaluating the commercial choice and risk boundaries of pumps is provided, as well as a method to help deal with problems arising from cavitating pumps in service.
