This was a book I had to speed read to get through. Abrupt shifts of points of view between different characters and confusing and illogical settings made this book hard to follow in the more leisurely manner in which I normally read. While I grant that it is a very imaginative work, I was turned off by the feeling that there was no overall cohesiveness to most of it, just random strangeness.
The main thrust of the book is Hitler-bashing. While I would agree that Hitler deserves bashing, this has been done so frequently that I think it would require a truly innovative take on the subject to evoke much interest. His projection of how Hitler would have become infirm and senile in an alternate reality does offer an interesting perspective on the strange mixture of human weakness combined with an inhuman egomania.
All in all, however, it seems that the other human stories in the book are randomly attached appendages to this main concept of the decline and decay of a monster. This book seems to have been conceived with the goal of making the world hate Hitler more than it already does. I,m not going to argue the right or wrong of that, but I didn't think it made for truly rewarding fiction.
